13 Misunderstanding
Part 13 Misunderstanding
Doubt was the most significant disease that would kill people slowly. Khushi was suffering from the disease. She didn't know if she could ask Arnav about Anu. She was not sure about their relationship as they never confessed. She thought Arnav also had feelings for her, just like she had for him, even though they didn't admit it verbally. Neither of them felt like doing it. They didn't know why. They spent time together, roamed together, teased one another, but didn't acknowledge their love for each other. Not that they didn't want to do it. They knew that they loved each other. They liked the feel.
But now, after listening to Arnav's talk on the phone with Anu, she became restless because Arnav never told her about Anu. She didn't even know Arnav had a friend called Anu. Of course, he did not frequently share everything with her. Yet, she didn't take it easily. Arnav always teased her if she asked anything about the girls who talked to him. And Arnav intentionally did that to irritate her. Khushi knew it. So, she never asked him about it.
She wanted to see if Arnav himself would tell her why he left her, without even telling her anything. She waited for his call, but Arnav didn't call her. That disappointed her.
The next morning
Khushi got ready for college and waited for Arnav, but
didn't get a call from him. Khushi attended it.
"Arnav..."
"Khushi, I won't come to the college today. Take a cab and go to college."
"But why?"
"It's urgent work... will talk to you later." Arnav disconnected the call.
Khushi was supposed to say something and looked at the phone, hearing the disconnecting sound. She kept the phone on the couch with a thud wearily. She didn't feel like going to college, but at the same time, she didn't want to sit at home and think about something that hurt her. So, she went to college.
She saw Aman and NK in the canteen. She went to them. They looked at each other as she was alone.
"Where is Arnav?" Aman asked.
"He won't come to college today."
"But why?"
"I don't know. Yesterday, he also left the college after he got a call from someone called Anu..." Khushi said, observing their expression.
"Anu's call?"
"Yes... who is she?"
"She is the most important person in his life... than us..." Aman said.
"Means?"
"She is more than a friend..." NK said.
They were together from their childhood. He will do anything for her and vice versa..."
Khushi started getting slightly jealous. She thought she was the only one in Arnav's life.
"Why didn't she come to meet him once in the two years?"
"She was not here. She went to her aunt's house in Mumbai to do her graduation, as her father was a busy businessman. He could not look after her with his busy schedule. So, he sent her to his sister's house. I think she is back in Delhi..."
"Why the hell did she return...?" Khushi murmured.
"Is she so close to Arnav?"
"Closer than us..." they didn't say, closer than YOU.
Khushi walked to her class, all exhausted. She saw Dhruv talking on the phone with someone. She slowed down her steps, hearing,
"Is it, Di? Is Anu back? Then Arnav will not be on the earth but on cloud nine. Thank God, he got his life regenerated. We thought she would not come back to him. I wonder why he skipped the eighth wonder class. Now, I have the answer. He would do anything for Anu. Don't we know that?" he saw Khushi looking at him.
"Di, we will talk later..." he disconnected the call.
"Hi, Khushi..."
"Hi..."
"Are you alright?"
She nodded.
"I think you are upset as Arnav was not with you"
She smiled awkwardly.
"He would be with Anu. She is from Mumbai. They were so close. Of course, lovers would be close..."
"Lovers?" Khushi was shocked.
"Of course... he would do anything for her. Then who is she?"
"But, he didn't say anything about her to me."
"How would he say if he is not sure about it?"
"Means?"
"They never confessed their love to each other. So, he was not sure until she returned to Delhi. Now, she came to him as she understood she could not survive without Arnav. I'm so happy that they finally reunited." Dhruv said, looking at Khushi from the corner of his eye. She left the place hurriedly as she didn't want him to see her teary eyes, but she was late. Dhruv saw her eyes well up. He smirked as his plan worked.
Dhruv was there when Khushi inquired about Arnav from Aman and NK. Dhruv knew Arnav's attachment to Anu. Until Anu was there in Delhi, Arnav would be busy with her because he knew why Anu came to Delhi. She was there to get her father's acceptance for her marriage. She was in love with a Christian boy named Victor. Her father was completely against it because he was a Christian. So, Anu came to Delhi seeking Arnav's help to get her father's acceptance. Arnav had a place in his father's good book. So, Anu believed that Arnav could do that.
The previous day, Arnav left the college with Anu as she said she was going to elope with Victor. To stop her from doing that only Arnav left the college. The problem was still running, and Arnav was with Anu and Victor.
Dhruv knew it was not going to end easily. Until it came to an end, Arnav would not be free. More than anything, Arnav would not disclose the matter to anyone, as it was about Anu. So, he used the situation to his advantage. He knew he had confused Khushi.
Yes, Khushi was confused, but she was clear about talking to Arnav about it.
Evening
Arnav came to college in the last period but didn't go to the class. He waited in the parking lot, leaning on the bike. Dhruv, who had just come out of the class, saw him and became alert. He guessed Arnav was there to meet Khushi. He would give an explanation about his actions. Or, he might tell her the truth, too.
He pulled his friends and whispered something in their ears.
"If you guys did what I said, you would get a dinner party tonight..."
"Yeah..." They left the place.
They stood looking for her. When she came out, they said,
"Didn't I say, Arnav would come to console Khushi?"
Khushi was stuck. Was Arnav there? She was excited but stopped listening,
"Of course, he pretended to be in a relationship with Khushi, just as he did with Anu. As Anu is back, he could not avoid her. At the same time, he didn't want to miss Khushi too..."
"How will he miss her if he gets everything from her for FREE...? Don't we know him? Would he be in distance from her?"
"No way..."
Khushi looked behind to see who was talking. But they pretended to be checking their books. She walked hurriedly and left the place. She saw Arnav waiting in the parking lot. He smiled at her, but Khushi didn't.
"Shall we go?"
"Just now did you remember me?"
Arnav smirked. He always liked it whenever she got jealous.
"What to do, Khushi, I was busy..."
"With Anu?"
Arnav was stuck. Did she know about Anu?
"Well... you got to know about Anu..."
"It must be you who should have told me about her, but my bad luck, you had not..."
"What's there to tell you about her?"
"You have nothing to say about her, but you would leave the college without even conveying the reason to me if she called you...right?"
"Of course, I will come to you if you call me... just as I went for her..."
Khushi was stuck; she didn't like him comparing her with someone.
"Bye..." she walked.
Arnav frowned.
"Hey, what happened?"
"I have to study. It's a few days to exams..."
"I will drop you..."
"No thanks... You have much more important work than dropping me. I will manage..."
Arnav rushed to her and blocked her way.
"What's wrong? Why are you behaving like this?"
"Who is Anu to you?"
"She is my friend..."
"Just like me?"
"Maybe..."
"Why didn't you tell me about her?"
"I don't think she will come back. I don't think she matters..."
"She doesn't matter, but you would spend two days on her?"
Arnav rolled his eyes.
"Not just two days... I will spend the whole week with her. To tell you that only I came to meet you."
Khushi was perplexed. Wouldn't he come to the college for the whole week?
"Our exams are closing up..."
"I'm prepared for the exams..."
"But what's necessary?"
"It is... I can't tell you about it now. I will tell you later."
Khushi looked somewhere.
"Are you coming with me or not?"
"However, I'm going to go alone for the whole week. So, I will go..." She walked.
Arnav held her hand. Khushi shrugged his hand off and left. Arnav stood looking at her helplessly.
To be continued...
