The plans below show the South Wing of Walton Museum in 2008 and in 2012 after it was redeveloped.

The provided plans show the improvement of the facilities of the South Wing of Walton Museum in 2012 and how it used to be in 2008. It is apparent that the place has been upgraded with more functional rooms and also had a lift so as to make the travel within the building more convenient.

In 2008, the South Wing was a 2-story house with three rooms on the ground floor and two other rooms on the second floor. The shop used to be between the special exhibition room and the stairs. On the right of the stairs was the cloaks room, which was right below reading room.

The redevelopment in 2012 turned the place into a 4-story building and added to it 5 more rooms. The reception and the cloaks room, which used to be two separate rooms, were then combined. The renovated building offered visitors more services such as a restaurant, children play area, and a self-service room as well.

Formal examinations are the only effective way to assess a student's performance. Continual assessment such as course work and projects is not a satisfactory way to do this.

To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

It is argued that only formal examinations can assess a student's performance effectively. Examples of continual assessment like course work and projects are claimed to not have the similar ability. In my opinion, an ideal judging scheme is what combines both formal examinations and continual assessment.

Formal examinations are events in which students are placed under great pressure and its results show whether a student can perform well in a very short period of time. The exams students take would reveal the exact capability of one's brain in that given time only. As it is judged within a short while, inaccuracies may occur. For example, if a student is sick that day, it is certain that the test cannot reflect entirely the skills of that person.

Continual assessment evaluates one's performance throughout the process of learning. In this way, it is not only the knowledge that is taken into consideration but the attitude as well, and the results based on this can help thoroughly study one's ability and behavior. However, our education system is built so as to train people to work, and if students just do course work and projects, it is likely that they will not be prepared well enough for their careers. For instance, it is a rare occasion when a worker graduated from the education that is based upon continual assessment only can deal with stress and busy deadlines.

In short, each way of assessing students has different results. In order to get rid of the everlasting process of weighing up the pros and cons between these two, a combination of them should be put into practice.
