in quieter light
I left my old self by the door
And walked away from darkened lore.
A different city, dimmer lights,
Yet welcomed me with softer sights.
I have now rested battered blades
Of my old pride now faints and fades.
The past still lingers now and then,
But I don't have to prove my ken.
For pain has carved a gentler part
And humbled this once-restless heart:
No powerful thrones, no glorious wars,
Just quiet peace that heals my scars.
I cook good meals with patient hands,
Delicious food tastes like homelands.
But if you asked me, I'd just smile
And answer you in my own style:
"I only eat because I live,
Whatever food that life may give."
Yet those for whom I deeply care
Can taste my hidden love still there.
The past remains, now out of place;
It cannot slow my forward pace.
I left the noise, the fear, the fight
To find my way in quieter light.
