Prologue
The storm was striking with a threat to devour the ship heaving on the immense sea. In the ship were two children lying side by side, bathed in the dim, flickering candlelight.
"Valhalla is a splendid place in which Odin resides, where those who sacrificed their lives on battlefields will be brought to by the Valkyries. Every day, these departed heroes, or comrades of the Gods in the final battle, practice combating on tremendous fields of the divine world. In the evening, they return to Valhalla for a feast of roasted wild boar and mead." said one of the two boys.
"Woww, that sounds great! If only we could be there!" The other boy commented, excitedly.
"However, for those who died of age or diseases, they won't be welcomed on the heaven but under the spiritual world ruled by Hel – Loki's daughter, who has a grotesque appearance. Also, her kingdom is terribly dull and freezing. Each spirit here is obliged to do a particular job she endows."
The screeching sound of thunder made the two think about some sort of an undersea monster's motion.
"Eeeekk! So scary! I don't want to go to stay with Hel, I haven't combated in any battles yet...!" The boy with ruffled hair frightenedly cuddled up against the smaller one.
"Calm down, Danmark. It's just a thunderclap. Supposing we drowned here, our spirits could descend to Aesir's castle under the ocean instead of hell." The other reassured Denmark.
"But Norge, where will our ship sail to? All around us is ocean but no place for a settlement." Denmark couldn't hide his skepticism about the experience he was having.
"Nothing ventured, nothing gained. What if on the other side of ocean awaits a miracle? Now just sleep and don't worry, okay?" Norway had always held a strong belief in marvels and godsend, that was why he determinedly set off to explore the outside world.
The two drifted into a peaceful sleep in the ferocious storm...
Early in the next morning...
LAND! WE'VE REACHED LAND!!!
Crewmen on the ship burst out in ecstasy as they had reached an exotic land, though no one got any idea of what were waiting for them.
Denmark and Norway went and went, but caught sight of virtually nothing in the dense fog.
"Perhaps it would be better to wait till the sun comes out, or else we'll get exhausted." Norway suggested.
"Uh."
Several hours later...
Under the infinite crystal blue sky, shiny little drops of dew glimmered on swaying branches and leaves. Birds filled the air with their melodious, honeyed songs as glorious beams of sunlight appeared in the dispersing fog, revealing the new intriguing land.
"OH. MY. ODIN!" The two uttered.
A whole tremendous world opened up before their eyes, a world that they'd never known of, waiting to be explored.
That was, the dawn of a new era.
