The Apprenticeship

Chapter Three

olimpiaa

Tour is starting today, I've been awake since six am, nervous as heck. My anxiety has been kicking in too,

My bags and suitcases are packed and waiting by the door. I've showered and ate something small. I've dressed in a dark grey Beyonce shirt, ripped skinny jeans and platform Vans with a floral print.

Pressing the home button of my iPhone to check the time, a notification comes in with a text message.

Kirst: We're starting to make our way to the airport. Do you need a ride?x

Me: I'm good, I'll get an uber. See you there x

Whilst my phone is still unlocked, I dialed the number for an uber and had a couple minutes for it to arrive. So, I grab my sunglasses from the table by the door and place them on the top of my head and slip my phone into my back pocket. I hang the Prada shoulder bag on my shoulder and pull the Ted Baker suitcase into the hallway of the apartment complex.

I close the door and lock it after making sure everything was turned off and locked. Aphrodite was staying with Alex and his other housemates and she'd have Wyatt to mess around with.

The uber arrives just as I exit the building. The driver puts my suitcase into the trunk and I slip into the backseat. I stare out the window as the car moves in the direction of LAX.

After 20 minutes of driving, the driver pulls up at LAX and I hand him some green bills, not bothering with change and exit the car. I retrieve my suitcase and take a deep breath before heading for the departures terminal.

The pastel green suitcase trails behind me and the black bag hangs off my right shoulder. I arrive at gate 42A in Terminal 4 at 7:52AM. Scott, Kevin and Kirstie are already standing there, chatting amongst themselves.

Kirstie notices me and rushes over.

"Hey Tam." She grins and hugs me.

"Hi Kirst." I awkwardly hug her back because of the big bag on my shoulder.

She releases me and turns back around to the boys. Kevin gives me a small wave and a grin, with a cheery 'hello'. Scott, however, stands there staring at me with a huge grin on his face, his hands slightly tucked into the pockets of his denim washed jeans.

"Hi Kevin, Scott." I smile.

Avi and Esther appear from the side with cups of Starbucks.

Esther hands everyone their coffee before turning to me.

"I didn't know when you were coming or what you like. I'm sorry we didn't get you anything." She apologizes.

"Don't worry about it. I can't really drink coffee with my meds." I reassure, giving a small smile and trying to avoid Scott's blue eyes as they looked at me when I mentioned my medicine.

"Oh, about that, have you brought them all?"

"Yep, they're all packed." I rested my hand on my shoulder bag.

I feel someone wrap their arms around my waist from behind and I turn my head back to see a dimple-smiling Mitch.

"Hey Tammy." He kisses my cheek and I giggle, turning around to hug him properly.

"Hey Mitchie."

"Mitch, you're so late." Kevin says.

"A Queen is never late, everyone is just just simply early." Mitch grins and we giggle together.

After the whole ordeal of sorting out tickets and handing the main luggage to the clerk behind the small desk at check-in etc., we all move to duty-free checkout and do some small shopping.

Me and Kirstie walk through a small store looking at different sorts of makeup, I keep throw various makeup articles into the basket hanging off my arm.

Kirstie wanders off to the restroom when I'm at the register, paying for my items. I struggle to put my wallet back into my bag, it slips off my shoulder and everything just goes wrong.

"Hey, let me take your bag. It looks heavy." A voice says from behind me.

I turn to see a tall, smiling blonde baritone reaching for my bag.

He takes a glance and stares at the Cartier link baby love bracelet on my hand. Some sort of realization struck in his eyes and he let out a breath.

Scott takes the bag and throws it over his shoulder.

"Let's get back to the others. Oh, and can we talk later? On the plane. Sit with me."

"Yeah, sure." I feel myself blush at the though of sitting next to Scott.

Forty minutes later we were all sat in the plane. Kirstie is sitting with Esther and a free seat beside them, Kevin is with Avi and a free seat and I'm sat in the middle of Scott and Mitch.

I buckle my belt around my waist and sigh. Planes were never my favorite thing because you never knew if you'd crash, but it was a genius thing of getting to places.

The hostess goes through the emergency exits and safety rules and everything like that, but I didn't listen as it was the millionth time I've heard it.

A few minutes later, the plane was on the runway and ready to take off. As soon as the engines roar and the giant machine starts moving, my hands grip the armrests and I hold my breath. My heart jumps to my throat and my anxiety levels are high.

I feel a large, soft, cold hand on top of mine and a rather smaller one on my jean covered knee.

The one on top of mine is Scott's and the one on my knee is Mitch's. I look at both of them a give a weak smile.

"Tammy?" I turn to Mitch, who is sitting by the window.

"Yes?"

"Are you okay?" He asks, concerned.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just anxiety is a bitch and I'm a little tired." I answer.

"Try and get some sleep. Just shake me if I don't hear you." He motions to his phone and earphones.

I chuckle and smile. "It's alright. Scott's here so don't worry."

He smiles and puts his earphones in. By now, the plane is smoothly gliding through the Sky and the clouds look so cute, like little fluffy pillows.

Mitch is in his own world of weird music, so I turn my head to Scott.

"You wanted to talk?" He nods and takes a deep breath.

"Yeah, the bracelet you're wearing," I look down at the Cartier bracelet. "It's um- I gave you that. In high school. You probably don't remember, but I did."

The memory was vague and I always wondered where that bracelet came from.

"Tammy, we were bestfriends since your Freshman year. I was a Junior then. We were inseparable. Mitch was in his Sophomore year. At the end of my Senior year we applied for the Sing-Off. Mitch never graduated but we won the show and we're here now. Before I left, I gave you the bracelet. Then my phone broke and I didn't have your number so we lost touch. But, look at us now. You've graduated and you're working with us now. We're  reunited, Tam."

The seatbelt sign on the overhead panel turns off and I unbuckle to jump into Scott's lap and hug him tight.

Tears trail down my cheeks, probably smudging my makeup, but I didn't matter as long as I got my bestfriend back.

"I have missed you so much." I mumble into his shirt.

"I've missed you too and I'm glad you still have the bracelet."

"I love it."

And I love you too.

"I'm glad."

I return back to my seat and lay my head on Scott's shoulder, closing my eyes. Eventually, falling asleep in the arms of my long-lost bestfriend.
