Chapter 5
After dinner and a few brief conversations, Natsha and Laurel walked side by side back.
"Natsha."
The voice was not loud, but in the quiet surroundings, it rang out more clearly than anything else. More than that, the voice was far too familiar, as though the moment that sound reached Natsha's ears, her body instinctively came to a halt on its own.
Natsha was not the only one who turned around. Laurel, startled by the unfamiliar sound, also turned around with her.
Lorena stood there in a pitch-black suit, her gaze fixed directly on Natsha. She narrowed her eyes slightly.
"Good evening, Laurel." Natsha spoke in Loft.
The moment Laurel heard it, she knew that this was Natsha's farewell to her. Or rather, it was a request to leave her alone, so carefully worded by its owner that it could not possibly be refused.
Lorena said nothing more and walked forward. Natsha also began to move. The two of them walked side by side.
The silence created between them carried an invisible sense of suffocation.
Ding!
The elevator doors opened. Natsha swiped her key card. The heavy door to the room opened, revealing a room bathed in warm yellow light, with just enough space for one person.
Without saying a word, Lorena slipped inside. She sat down on the sofa, crossing one leg over the other.
The dark wooden door closed behind them. Natsha tilted her head and leaned against one side of the wall. She folded her arms and began to speak.
"Withdraw your pheromones." It was a reminder. From the moment Laurel had left until now, Lorena's faint tea scent had remained surrounding her.
And, of course, it would have been ridiculous to expect Lorena to listen to Natsha.
The scent of tea did not withdraw. It continued to linger faintly around her.
Natsha temporarily ignored Lorena's stubbornness.
"Why did you come here?" She asked. "Security is unstable. You're looking for a way to die?"
Natsha used Lorena's own words to mock her.
Lorena, of course, had never been interested in being mocked. Especially not with her status.
"I didn't expect you to know Loft." Lorena replied indifferently in Loft. There was not the slightest trace of warmth in her eyes as they remained fixed directly on Natsha.
"Because when have you ever paid attention?" Natsha lowered her head slightly, so the light could no longer fully illuminate her face. Her lips moved, uttering words that only she could hear.
"Yes." She raised her head. "I studied it before." She gave a rather vague answer.
Just as Laurel had complimented her, Natsha truly sounded completely different when she spoke Loft.
"Did you come here just to ask about this?" Natsha wanted to end this heavy conversation. She felt that facing this woman was only draining away the little strength she had just managed to regain.
Lorena did not answer. Instead, she rose from the sofa and walked toward Natsha. The distance between their bodies grew smaller and smaller. Natsha could even feel the coolness of Lorena's skin.
Lorena's lips brushed lightly over Natsha's, finally touching them. The kiss began as a fleeting touch before becoming more passionate. The scent of tea spilled uncontrollably into the air.
The corner of Natsha's lips lifted at Lorena's invasion.
Of course. Lorena's rut had come again.
The bitter scent of wine, harsh and astringent, spread across the tip of Natsha's tongue, jolting her awake from something.
What had been restraining her all along was none other than Natsha herself. Did she really want to live like this? Natsha already had the answer.
Lorena's body was pushed away. She thought it would be the same as every other time. Natsha would ask her questions, and all Lorena had to do was give the right answers.
Whatever Lorena wanted, she received.
"End it." Natsha's voice rang through the room.
Lorena frowned.
"End what?" What exactly was Natsha talking about?
"Right." Natsha spoke. "It should be about returning to how things were in the beginning, shouldn't it? How could anything that was never formed in the first place be called an ending?"
"What are you playing at now?" Lorena could not understand why the person before her had suddenly become like this.
"I'm not playing at anything."
Natsha created some distance between them. But Lorena absolutely refused to allow it.
"Find someone else."
Lorena let out a derisive laugh.
"Do you think I can find someone else?"
Lorena's pupils trembled as anger surged through her.
"How could I possibly find another Natasha?"
Right. If Natsha did not have a face identical to that of her twin sister, how could this situation ever have developed into what it was now?
Natsha truly let out a bitter, mocking laugh at herself. For both the past and the present.
"So what?" Natsha raised an eyebrow. "Is that my problem?"
Lorena had never been treated this way by Natsha before. The Natsha Triverson who existed in her mind was not like this.
"Don't you think sleeping with the younger sister of your late fiancée is rather abnormal?"
Back then, Natsha had set aside the deeply ingrained boundaries of right and wrong within herself and stepped onto this path.
In the end, what she received in return was nothing. Not even that. Only the gradual erosion of her mind and heart.
SLAP!
"Who was it?"
Lorena's hand trembled, her palm turning red, proof that the slap had been delivered with considerable force.
Her voice shook violently.
"Who was it back then, taking advantage of my unstable state of mind and..."
Lorena was so furious and choked with emotion that she could not continue.
Natsha's face was turned sharply to the side by the force of Lorena's slap. Natsha lowered her head, allowing the shadows to conceal every expression on her face.
