Arnav and Khushi were stunned. What kind of sin he was?
"What the hell are you doing, Sagar?" Arnav sneered.
Sagar was silent.
"Sagar, understand one thing. You are our son. This is our family. Without you, it can't get completed"
"I'm not going to stay away from you forever. I will come home after a few months, dad"
"Don't YOU ( stressing ) want to be with us? Don't you have the desire to be with your parents?"
"That's why I'm going to come home every weekend, Dad"
"Sagar, listen to me..."
"Dad, this time, please, you listen to me. As a son, this is what I could give my parents who were away from each other for more than twenty years. I know what you guys mean to each other..."
"I want to be with Arnav. It doesn't mean I don't want you to be with us, Sagar." Khushi said distressed.
"Mom. I didn't mean it..."
"Sagar, leave everything... Pack your things and come home" Arnav ordered.
"Dad..."
"That's final"
Sagar blinked his eyes, looking at Khushi slowly.
"You don't have to bother about us. I'm a military man. I know how to make myself comfortable in any situation. Our family includes you and I don't want you to be away from us. We will be happy no matter where we are and with whom we are" Arnav said.
Sagar bowed down.
"Talk to your hostel warden and vacate your room. Or, I will talk to him if needed"
"It's not a big deal, Major. We will talk to him" Madhav said.
"Ok, then I will come in the evening to pick you up"
Sagar nodded ok. That was when Sagar's hostel mates came there. Sagar smiled at them.
"Dad, they are my classmates and also roommates. He is Vishnu and he is Peter" Sagar introduced them.
"Hi, guys..." Arnav said.
"Hello, uncle..."
"Hey, didn't I tell you about Major? He is the one..." Madhav said.
"From morning, Sagar and Madhav are talking about only you without taking a break," Vishnu said.
Arnav smiled.
"I'm taking Sagar home," Arnav said.
"Really?" They asked in the same tone, shockingly.
"Yeah... Why? Any problem?" Arnav asked.
"We are hoping to get passing marks in the exams only because of Sagar. He helps us in our studies. If he is not with us, we will struggle, uncle" Peter said sadly.
"Oh..."
"Yes, Major. Sagar had heavy demand in the hostel." Madhav said.
"What about you? Don't you need his help?"
"I'm the one who occupies Sagar's time the most. Sagar goes to the hostel only after clearing my doubts"
"Yeah, we arrest him in the night," Vishnu said.
Arnav thought for a while.
"Do one thing... Come to our home and do group study" Arnav said.
Not only the guys but also Sagar was surprised.
"Wow... This is a good idea, Major" Madhav said excitedly.
Arnav smiled.
"Guys, those days will be amazing days of our lives. Major is a super cool man"
"Oie... He invited you to study. Not for entertainment" Sagar said.
"Go Sagar... Major is not a boring personality like you. He is a youthful man" Madhav said.
Arnav laughed.
"Oh really?" Sagar asked.
"Yeah... Learn from your dad how to be an updated version of yourself"
"I will try to do it, sir," Sagar said sarcastically.
That was when the college bell rang.
"Ok, dad, we have to go"
"Be ready. I will come in the evening"
"Ok dad"
Madhav came close to Arnav and whispered.
"Think about a trip, Major"
"Sure" Arnav smiled.
Sagar headed to his class with his friends. Arnav looked at Khushi who didn't even utter a single word.
"What are you thinking?" Arnav asked.
"I wonder how this boy thought about us so deeply"
They started walking.
"I told you, he is so understanding... He had grown up witnessing your struggle. That's what makes him think about everything related to you" Arnav said.
He started the bike. Khushi sat behind him.
"Thank you for giving me such a nice child," Khushi said.
Arnav looked at her, turning behind, stopping the bike.
"What did you say?"
Khushi raised her brows.
"Khushi, don't be so good. Ok?"
"What are you talking about?"
"You are giving the credit to me that belongs to only you... The way you brought up Sagar is what made him a nice boy. Not because he is my son"
"Even though I brought him up with values he adopted them only because he has your traits"
"Khushi... I'm not that good like my son. I eloped with a girl and made her pregnant just in three days" He chuckled.
Khushi pinched his shoulder smiling.
"By the way, how will you make it possible?" she questioned.
"What?"
"You said you will make any situation in your favor... How are you going to spend your time with me?"
"You will get to know that when our routine starts"
As per the plan, Arnav brought Sagar home after vacating the hostel room that day evening. No need to say, Sagar started having a good time with his parents. Arnav found Khushi and Sagar's likes and dislikes slowly.
After a week, Khushi joined the school and Arnav joined the jobs. Even though Arnav's office started at 10 o'clock, he left the home with Khushi and Sagar at 8 o'clock.
3 o' clock
Khushi came out of the school, looking for an auto. She was surprised to find Arnav outside the school.
"You here?"
"Yeah... To pick you up"
"I can manage, Arnav"
"I know you will manage..." Arnav started the bike.
Khushi nodded NO and sat on the bike.
They came home.
"What I told you?" Arnav asked.
"What?"
"I said I will give you my time"
"Haan..."
"That's what I'm doing"
"That means, is your office time also the same?"
"Nope... My office time is ten to five. But, I adjusted it..."
"How? I'm going to the office at 8 o'clock and doing my work in advance"
"Ohh... So smart..."
"Thank you"
A month later
Arnav and Khushi started leading a normal life that they missed. One day, Khushi got a call from Kiran.
"Hello madam"
"Congratulations, Khushi"
"For what, madam?"
"You have been selected for the state award"
"Me? But why?"
"For your unconditional service for special children"
"I just did my duty"
"But, it changed many lives for good. You deserve this award"
"Thank you, madam"
Khushi disconnected the call and smiled at Arnav.
"What's the matter?"
"I have been selected for state awards"
"Wow... Really?"
She nodded yes.
"Damn... How simply you said that?"
She sat next to him and leaned on his shoulder.
"The biggest award of my life is you"
"It doesn't mean your achievement is simple. It's a very big honor. You should have been dawn in many lives. That's why the government honors you"
"To achieve this, I lost my life" she sighed.
"Maybe... This is why we got separated"
Khushi looked at him surprisingly.
"If we had not separated, we would have lived a normal life...running behind money... But, now, because of you, many special children got lives. You made their parents relieved. Could not deny, our life was not easy. The path we crossed is the toughest. But, it was worth it because we met... We got united. At least, we have a reason to get consoled. We didn't waste our lives. I served the nation and you served special children unconditionally. Don't feel fed up. You are a great person. You could have lived luxuriously if you had wanted... But you didn't. No one is like you. I'm so proud of you"
Khushi smiled mildly.
"Instead of regretting, live the remaining life to the fullest. Ok?"
Khushi nodded ok.
"Nodding is not enough... Let's go" he picked her up in his arms and walked to their room not to waste time.
