Professor Yang Jong Hoon is a lecturer at Hankuk University Law School. Kang Sol A is a newly transferred student. She made many friends, among whom her closest friend is Han Joon Hwi, a student who passed the second law exam.
On her first day at school, the class of that day was Professor Yang’s Criminal Law lecture. Sol A was late because she went out drinking with Joon Hwi and their friends last night. She opened the door and stepped in, and a sound echoed in the classroom.
“How dare you be late to my class,” Professor Yang said.
“Joesonghabnida gyosunim.”
“You’re the new student who just transferred, right?”
“Nae”
The professor gradually softened his tone, and she walked to her seat. The person sitting next to her was Joon Hwi, and curious, she asked him:
“Do you know who this teacher is?”
“That’s Professor Yang Jong Hoon, famous for his cold appearance.”
“Oh, so that’s him. When I first came, I also heard a lot of people talk about him.”
While they were talking, Professor Yang suddenly shouted:
“The one who just came in late, stand up!” Sol A didn’t know what was happening, so she stood up.
“Nae?”
“You’re the new student who transferred, right?”
“Nae, Gyosunim.”
“What’s your name?”
“My name is Kang Sol.”
“Kang Sol? Isn’t there already someone named Kang Sol in this class?” The professor frowned as he spoke.
“Yes, from now on just call me Kang Sol A and the other student Kang Sol B.” Kang Sol B frowned and looked in her direction: “Mwo?”
Kang Sol A didn’t say anything more, so everyone in the class remained silent and continued studying. After class, Sol A hurried out because she felt nauseous from drinking with Joon Hwi last night. While running toward the bathroom, she accidentally bumped into Professor Yang and vomited on him. Professor Yang turned to look at her with a murderous glare: “What are you doing?”
Sol A didn’t have time to explain and ran into the bathroom. After vomiting, she suddenly remembered that she had vomited on Professor Yang, so she ran to his office:
“Gyosunim, may I come in?”
“Come in.”
Sol A opened the door and stepped in, seeing that the professor had changed clothes, so she explained:
“Because I went drinking with friends last night, I vomited on you, joesonghabnida gyosunim.”
The professor didn’t look at her, just focused on his computer and said:
“If you’re late like this again, don’t blame me.”
He didn’t mention the fact that she vomited on him, only about her being late. She was confused:
“Nae?”
The professor remained silent, so she left and told Joon Hwi what had happened. Joon Hwi replied:
“Maybe since you’re a new student, he didn’t want to make things difficult for you.”
The next day
Wanting to apologize for vomiting on him yesterday, after class today she hurried over and asked:
“Will you have a meal with me? I’m inviting today.”
The professor didn’t answer and ignored her.
“Gyosunim, come eat with me.”
“My rule is I don’t eat with my students” the professor said and walked away.
Sol A felt sad, thinking maybe he was mad at her, so she looked gloomy all day. Ye Sul saw her mood and asked:
“Unnie, what’s wrong?”
Sol A told her about what happened, and Ye Sul said:
“Professor Yang is like that, he’s not angry at you. He never eats with his students.”
Hearing that, Sol A didn’t care anymore and went back to her dorm.
A few days later
It was Saturday, so Sol A went to the supermarket to buy some necessities. While looking for items, she saw a box of snacks she really liked, but it was placed very high, so she was about to give up. Suddenly, a hand reached from behind her to grab the box. She turned around and was very surprised to see Professor Yang.
“Gyosunim!”
Professor Yang didn’t say anything and handed her the box, then walked away. She ran after him.
“Do you often come here?”
“Ummm, I usually come here on weekends because it’s near my house.”
“Your house is nearby?”
“Umm.”
They walked together without noticing it. After shopping, at the checkout Sol A realized she forgot her wallet and intended to run back to the dorm to get it. Just as she reached the lobby, it was raining heavily, so she hesitated, unsure whether to run back. Then she heard Professor Yang’s voice right behind her:
“Hey.”
She saw him come out and carry her items as well, so she asked:
“I haven’t paid yet.”
“In this heavy rain, are you going to run home to get money to pay?”
Sol A didn’t know what to say.
“Kamsahabnita gyosunim.”
A while later, the rain stopped, and they walked back. On the way, they didn’t speak, but suddenly a motorcycle rushed ahead. Professor Yang saw it and pulled Sol A behind him.
“Gwenchana?”
“Nae, Gwenchanayo gyosunim.”
Sol A looked up at him and felt her heart beating a little faster. He looked at her too, but she shyly avoided his gaze. They continued walking. She returned to her dorm, and Professor Yang also arrived home.
To be continued.
