“Were you just joking? Are you jealous?”
“Ani, why would I be jealous of Joon Hwi?”
“Jinjja?”
“Yaa, today you dare to talk to me without honorifics?”
“Umm, what’s wrong with that?”
“You’re only allowed to drop honorifics when it’s just the two of us. In class, you still have to use them, got it?”
“Nae.”
“So are you coming with me tonight?”
“Yes.”
“I’ll pick you up at 6, okay?”
“Nae.”

Being invited out by her professor, Sol A was very happy. On the way back to class, she kept looking at him and smiling. When Professor Yang walked in, she smiled again.
“Kang Sol A!!!” Joon Hwi asked.
“Wae?”
“What did you eat today that makes you smile nonstop?”
“Ani.”
“You’re making people really curious.”

After finishing Professor Yang’s class, it was time to leave. Sol A walked out with him when suddenly Kim Han Joo came over and hooked her arm around him. “Come eat with me tonight, professor.” Sol A, standing nearby, felt upset, but then he made her happy again.
“Ani, I already have a date with someone important tonight.”
“Dugu?”
“You don’t need to know.”

Hearing that, Sol A felt delighted. Back in her room, she carefully prepared for the evening with her professor. “Should I wear a dress? Ani, we’re just going to the beach, I’ll wear something casual.” She put on a shirt with a coat, let her hair down, and sprayed a little perfume.

At the agreed time, Professor Yang called.
“Come downstairs, I’m waiting for you.”
“Nae.”

Sol A rushed down so he wouldn’t have to wait. When she saw him, she was stunned. He wore a black turtleneck under a white shirt with a coat on top. His hair wasn’t styled up like usual but fell naturally, and he leaned against his BMW. Sol A could only gape in awe. Normally he wore suits and slicked-back hair, but tonight his new style made him look a hundred times more attractive.
“Hurry up!”
“Nae nae.”

Professor Yang opened the door for her, and she got in. Everyone upstairs who saw them was shocked.
“Yaa, he’s so handsome. Is that Sol A’s boyfriend?”
“Umm, he looks so familiar, like I’ve seen him before.”
“Yeah, I think he looks like someone I know, but I can’t remember who.”

In the car, Sol A kept sneaking glances at him.
“Wae? Do I look that different today?”
“You look much more handsome than usual.”
“You too. You look really pretty today.”

They kept looking at each other and laughing, no longer awkward like before.

At the beach, Professor Yang opened the car door for her. They sat down just as the sun set, the sky growing darker, with only the two of them there. Ten minutes passed without a word until Sol A spoke first.
“Gyosunim.”
“Wae?”
“Let’s date.”
“You’re not bothered by the age gap between us?”
“Ani.”
“We’ll have to date in secret. Doesn’t that worry you?”
“Ani.”
“There are many female students around me. Aren’t you afraid?”
“Ani.”
“So you’re not afraid of anything about dating me?”
“I’m afraid you won’t wait for me until I graduate.”
“I’ve spent my whole life waiting for you. Waiting a few more years doesn’t matter. So just focus on studying. I’ll always be here, protecting you, supporting you, and sharing everything with you.”

As he spoke, Professor Yang held Sol A’s hand and moved closer.
“Do you really like me?”
“Umm.”
“When did you start liking me?”
“When you touched my forehead and began to care about me. What about you?”
“That’s a secret.”
“Yaaa.”
“You can’t treat other female students too kindly.”
“Wae?”
“Because I’ll get jealous.”
“Oh, so you know how to get jealous too?”
“Then do you?”
“Ani.”
“Fine, then I’ll go eat with Joon Hwi.” Sol A stood up, but Professor Yang pulled her back. She fell onto him, and their faces were suddenly very close. He looked at her lips and kissed her. Sol A was shocked at first, but soon closed her eyes. The kiss grew deeper, and everything around them fell into silence. A cold, stern man like Professor Yang had turned soft and warm in front of one girl.
“You’re my first kiss.”
“But you’re not mine.” Sol A said and ran off.
“Yaaa Kang Sol A.” He got up and chased after her.
“Scary, every time you shout like that it feels like I’m about to be interrogated.”
“Yaaa, stop right there. Do you think you can outrun me?”

They chased each other along the beach until Sol A collapsed.
“I can’t run anymore.” They lay on the sand, breathing heavily.
“The stars are so many tonight.”
“You really like stargazing, huh?”
“Umm. I often spend whole nights on the rooftop just looking at them.”
“Are they really that beautiful?”
“Umm.”

After a while of stargazing, Sol A said, “I’m hungry. Buy me tteokbokki.”
“Gaja.”

He took her to a nearby place.
“Two tteokbokki, please, one not spicy.”
“You can’t eat spicy food?”
“Umm.”

They stood there eating together, laughing. Since it was late, Professor Yang drove Sol A back. He opened the car door for her again, and once inside, he held her hand and didn’t let go the whole way. Even when they arrived at the dorm, he still didn’t want to release her hand.
“Go on in. Get home safe, professor.”
“I’ll call you later.”

Sol A kissed his cheek before running into the dorm.
“Gwiyeobda.”

Professor Yang smiled, watching her until she entered the elevator before he drove off. On the way home, suddenly another car swerved in front of him.

To be continued.
