Part 18 Backfired?

Suman came home after finishing his night shift. Taking a spare key, he unlocked the door and entered because he knew Khushi won't be at home as it was 9 am. But to his surprise, she was sleeping on the couch in the living room. Taking a few long steps, he reached her and touched her forehead, assuming she might have a fever but nope. Her body temperature was normal. If she was normal, why didn't she go to school?

Khushi opened her eyes, feeling his touch.

"Don't you go to school today?" Suman asked.

She shook her head from left to right.

"Why? Is everything alright?"

She stayed mute.

"So, something is wrong"

Khushi looked at him with her reddened eyes.

"What happened? Didn't you sleep properly?"

Suman thought deeply for a while,

"Did Arnav say why he doesn't want you to forgive him?"

Khushi looked at him thunderstruck.

"How do you assume right, Sumi?"

"What did he say?" He asked without answering her.

"He doesn't want my forgiveness because he thinks I will forget him if I forgive him"

Suman got struck.

"What made you upset, his confession of why he doesn't want you to forgive him? Or... He assumed wrongly that you can forget him?"

Khushi was silent but words were trying to jump out of her throat. Yes, she was upset for both reasons. The pain in Arnav's words pricked her heart. At the same time, how could he even think she could forget him? Was he such a person who could be forgotten?

"Is your decision of not going to school, for one day or forever?"

Khushi bit her lip to control her sob but she failed. Tears rolled down her cheek.

"I... I... sensed him controlling his anger when he spoke to me..."

"Mmm... So, he doesn't want you to forget him... He wants you to remember him at any cast... At least with anger... How divine your man is..."

"He is not mine..."

"He is... Still, he is... Just like how you are his..."

"But..."

Cutting her,

"He is not even talking with the woman who is his so-said wife. The girl who calls him Daddy is not his daughter. We knew very well how hurtful it is to be hated by our beloved ones. Yet, he seeks it. Can't you just understand what kind of life... Correction... hell, he is living in?"

"But what can I do?"

"Can't you do anything?"

"I'm going to resign from my job," she said, rigidly, gulping down.

"Oh... Will you get rid of all the problems if you resigned from your job? Will you wipe off Arnav's memories from your heart? Are not you the one who taught me to face the world? Where are your guts? Is advice only for others? Not for you?"

"I will face the whole damn world but vulnerable Arnav. I don't want to get weak, Sumi... It's not good for anyone of us"

"We all are weaker in something. There is no human on the earth without weakness..."

"But, the world will spit on me... He is someone's husband now..."

"But still, he is thinking of you..."

"He can do nothing, Sumi... Because Mr. Kapoor's WILL clearly states that neither he could sell the property nor could transfer it to anyone. Arnav can't get rid of this relationship forever because Kapoor's properties are in his name..."

"LAW has many loopholes... It even allows being with anyone we wished to be"

"Shut up, Sumi... I'm not that kind of a woman"

"I'm not saying you are... Even Arnav knew it. That's why the poor guy is struggling"

Of course, Khushi knew it.

"Get ready for school..."

"No, Sumi..."

"You are going to the school and that's final"

Khushi sighed with annoyance.

"If you really respect me, do it"

Khushi clutched her nose bone with her index and thumb fingers.

"Come on baby" Suman pleaded.

Khushi sighed.

"That's my darling..." Suman cheered her up.

Taking her clothes, Khushi went to the washroom to change her dress.

Rishab School

Arnav stood up from his seat as the school bell rang. He didn't know if Khushi would smile at him as she did the previous day. He walked to the centre ground, thinking about it. He saw Lavanya bringing Khushi's class children to the assembly. Something kicked his mind. Won't Khushi come to school today? For only today or forever? He became tense. What if she resigned from the job? He cursed himself for demanding something from her. After many years, he had been getting a pleasant view of Khushi bringing his daughter to the assembly every morning. He ruined it. Because of his vexation, Khushi didn't come to school. What had she done? He could not even call her and request her to come back again. She won't listen to him.

Arnav went to his room and paced here and there, impatiently. The last and final chance to get Khushi's presence around him was gone. There was no chance for him to get such a chance again. He punched the wall to let out his frustration.

He was supposed to sit on his chair, but he stopped looking at the school entrance through the window. He sighed in relief, seeing Khushi entering the school campus. He rushed out of the room and came to the entrance. Khushi was taken back, seeing him looking at her with a satisfactory smile. Khushi walked in crossing him, without smiling at him even though she was not angry with him.

Arnav came to his seat and checked his mobile if there was any message from his lawyer Mr. Roy. As he had hit Sheetal straight, she would do something lawfully to get rid of him, he believed. Until she was stuck with this relationship, he could not be at peace. Only Sheetal could do anything regarding this because this property belonged to her. She should file a case against him in court. Then only this HIDE and SEEK would come to an end. This was his lawyer Roy's idea. If Sheetal filed a case against him, this problem would found a solution for sure. Arnav was not lucky enough to live his life with Khushi. More than that, it was hell to be with Sheetal like an arrogant woman.

Arnav was waiting for Sheetals' further action. But he didn't know she would get a worse idea to hit him back.

....

It was one of the biggest hotels in Lucknow. It was the fifth SHOT of Vodka for Sheetal. She kept the empty glass on the tea table in front of her. She was angry like hell. How could Arnav ask her the reason to issue a cheque? Who was he to question her? Bloody servant... She threw the glass on the floor.

The man in front of her was looking at her silently.

"Won't you say anything, Sarath?"

"You can't sell your property... You can't spend your money... You can do nothing... What do you want me to say?"

"Don't you want us to go Maldives?"

"Of course, yes..."

"Then give me some ideas to get money from him"

"Your father made him a sole hire of his property... Sadly, your father was not ready to trust you..."

"Don't waste my time, talking about something we can't change... Give me some useful ideas"

"I have an idea but you won't do it"

"What's that?"

"Do you remember, you said Arnav is a RESPECT FREAK"

"So?"

"Demolish his respect..."

Sheetal became thoughtful.

"Make him feel bad for messing with you. After all, he is a principal of a school" he spilled an evil grin.

There was a wicked smirk on Sheetal's face. Yes, that was the best punishment for Arnav for denying her. From here on, he should shiver to open his mouth in front of her. She nodded yes. It seemed she was ready to insult Arnav.

As the next day was independence day, the school worked only for half day. Students were sent home with prior messages. Only teachers were there in school, doing arrangements for the next day. The school ground was getting ready to march past as well as the stage was for the cultural programs.

Khushi took the responsibility of drawing rangoli to welcome the chief guest. She was doing that at the entrance. As she was interested in rangoli, she didn't take anyone's help. After drawing the national flag with a peacock, she was coloring them.

Khushi sensed someone was advancing on her. She looked at the person, turning behind. She was shocked, seeing Sheetal trudging. It was clear she was drunk. Khushi felt a shiver running down her spine. She looked at her surroundings she could not understand what to do.

"Where is he?" Sheetal shouted.

"Shhhh... Please don't shout..." Khushi pleaded.

"Call him..." Sheetal again shouted.

Khushi looked here and there. She ran to the sports room, looking for Manju. She was not there.

"Arnav... Where the hell are you?" Sheetal raised her voice.

Without any choice left, Khushi rushed to Sheetal. Clutching her hand, she tried to drag her to Arnav's room before anyone saw her but she was late. A group of teachers came to the entrance, finishing their work.

To be continued...
