Part 21 Backstory
"I heard your voice when you told Khushi that you are one of the goons. I sensed a naughtiness in your tone at that time. It's clear that you are enjoying her company. I know you love her, too. Marry her, Arnav." Aman said.
Arnav was silent, which satisfied Aman because Arnav didn't deny it. He knew the meaning of his silence. It always had a deep meaning.
"Your life will take a good turn if you marry her, Arnav."
"I have no idea how to get married..." he said, not looking at him.
"If you have no idea, why do you entertain her? Why didn't you chase her away from you?"
"It's because Papa wants me to take care of her", he stammered.
"Oh... you are taking care of her because your father wants it..."
Arnav was silent.
"Don't cheat yourself,"
"I don't think he cheats himself..." Lavanya said.
Both of them looked at her questioningly.
"He knows what he is doing. He was clear that he liked her. Yet, something is stopping him...
"It's because she is my student..."
"So what? She is a nice girl. She likes you." Lavanya argued.
"She not only likes him but is crazy about him. Otherwise, she would not have been roaming behind him," Aman said.
Arnav closed his face with his palms.
"Just think once, Arnav. Even your father liked her. your heart needs her near you. Will you say no?"
"This is all infatuation. She will change after completing her graduation and meeting someone..."
"If she is that kind, why did she take the print of your house key?"
"Is it?" Lavanya asked, surprisingly.
"Yes... I'm surprised about it, and what surprised me more is that our Arnav didn't try to stop her by taking any action, even though he had a chance to take action against her legally..."
"Yeah, he could have even gotten her arrested..." Lavanya said.
Arnav looked at her shockingly. Arrested? He gulped down.
"Why? Can't you imagine Khushi being arrested?" Aman asked seriously.
"Why should I get her arrested? Is she a thief or what? I know her intention is not to steal anything..."
"No... You are wrong. she is indeed a thief. She came here to steal your heart..."
"She is succeeding too..." Lavanya smiled.
Arnav looked at them plainly.
"Your heart is not with you..."
"Who said? It's pumping my blood well..." Arnav said.
"Yeah... It's passing Khushi to all your blood cells." Aman teased.
"I'm tired. I'm going to sleep..." Arnav said.
"Ok, go. We will go for a walk..." Aman said.
Lavanya nodded.
"You sleep. I will take a key." Aman said, and Arnav nodded.
Aman locked the door and left the house, taking a spare key. He called Khushi when he was away from the house. She attended it.
"Hello, Aman sir..."
"Hi, Khushi, we want to meet you. Could you come?"
Khushi was stuck.
"I need to talk to you. it's important."
"Now?"
"Yes... We will leave tomorrow morning."
"Oh, ok... where should I come?"
"Come to the Tapkeshwar Mahadev Mandir."
"Ok... I will be there in half an hour"
They hung up the call. Khushi started for the Temple. When she reached the Temple, Aman and Lavanya were waiting for her.
"Hi..." She smiled.
"Hi..." they reciprocated.
"Had lunch?"
"Yeah..."
"What do you want to talk to me about?" She asked in a low tone.
"I will tell you. Before that, answer my question," Aman said.
"What question?"
"Are you in love with Arnav?"
She nodded yes.
"I love him so much..."
"Will you be stubborn in your decision?"
"Of course..."
"Will you not change your mind in any situation?"
"No situation can change my mind because no one is like him."
"What if he has a bad backstory?"
Khushi was stuck.
"Bad backstory?"
Aman nodded yes.
"He had a sister..."
"Does he have a sister?"
"He had..."
"Means?"
"She is no more now."
"How? What happened to her?"
"She was killed,"
"Killed? But why?"
"Her teacher misbehaved with her..."
"Misbehaved?"
"Yes... he was a rogue. He misbehaved with her. She slapped him without a care in the world. He forced her. She tried to save herself. So, she fought with him. In that, her head was injured and she died on the spot."
Khushi closed her mouth with her palm in shock.
"Then the teacher tried to cover it up, but Anu's friend, who witnessed the scene, told it to Arvind's uncle. He saw the teacher trying to bury her in his house. Seeing Anu's lifeless body with many scars, Uncle Arvind lost his patience. Taking the spade, he hit the teacher on his head continuously, even after he died."
Khushi was shocked.
"Uncle Arvind was arrested. Her sister was dead. Arnav was left alone..."
"Their mother?" Khushi asked, with a heavy heart.
"She passed away a long time ago from cancer. He was helpless when his father got a life sentence. There was no one for him. People started calling him the son of a murderer. He just completed twelfth grade at that time."
Khushi felt bad about Arnav. She understood why he hated those who tried to touch girls. She saw that when the goons tried to kidnap her.
"Through his friend, his father made him join a college in Delhi. My two friends and I also joined with him because we didn't want to leave him alone. We stayed in a rental house only for Arnav. We didn't want him to feel uncomfortable about anything. We self-cooked and ate. Arnav slowly started to come out of the grief, but still, the wound was in his heart. He lost his temper if he saw anyone misbehaving with any girl. He did everything he could to save them, without thinking about the consequences. We completed our Master's. Lavanya and I fell in love during our master's program. We started hunting for a job, but Arnav applied for a PhD. and became a professor."
"When I met him in Nainital, he refused to tell me his name. Why so?" Khushi asked.
"I told you, Lavanya's father is searching for us. He is angry with Arnav for getting us married. You would have called him by his name if he had told you his name. It may lead him into trouble if any of her father's men had heard it. That's why he would have denied telling his name."
"Were they following you?"
"Of course, they are still searching for us. So, we are always cautious."
Khushi sighed.
"I want you to promise me", Aman said.
"What promise?"
"Don't leave Arnav for any reason, even though he shouts at you"
"I'm too scared of it, even though he never shouted at me"
"Didn't he ever shout at you?" he was surprised again.
"No..."
"Strange..."
"I don't know if he will like me"
"He likes you..."
"I don't think so... what he shows me can't be love."
"He doesn't hate you, doesn't get irritated seeing you, he teases you, what's all this?"
Khushi's face lit up.
"What?"
"Undoubtedly, Love... maybe at first stage..."
"He has no one for himself, Khushi. His father visits him once or twice a year. That's all."
"His sister is forced by a teacher. This is why he doesn't want to accept me, because he is a professor?"
"Absolutely. He doesn't want to become a bad example. That's why he is not accepting you. At the same time, he likes you because he got someone for himself after his mother and sister."
"Does he like his sister very much?"
"Veeerry much... she was his soul... he was devastated when she died. If Uncle Arvind had not killed that Ba****, he would have killed him. He loved his sister to that extent."
Khushi became sad knowing his past history.
"Be with him, Khushi. Tell your parents about him. They will like him."
"You don't worry about my parents. I will take care of them."
"That's great. I want Arnav to get settled in his life. That's all I want."
"I will not leave him and will be with him... forever..." she smiled, spreading a smile to Aman and Lavanya's faces.
